The OmniConverter G/M is a versatile and managed Gigabit Ethernet fiber edge switch designed for extending network distances and segmenting traffic. This compact unit features a combination of Gigabit fiber and copper Ethernet ports, offering flexibility for various network deployments. It operates as a standard Layer 2 switch, intelligently forwarding traffic based on MAC addresses. Advanced features include Directed Switch mode for efficient multicast traffic management, crucial for applications like video distribution, preventing unnecessary network congestion. Models with dual fiber ports provide enhanced reliability through redundant uplinks with rapid restoration (<50ms) in case of fiber failure, or can be utilized for daisy-chaining multiple switches. Additionally, Dual Device mode allows the G/M to function as two independent, isolated Ethernet switches, ensuring separate data paths. Configuration is user-friendly, accessible via DIP-switches or comprehensive management interfaces including Web, Telnet, SSH, and Serial Console for both in-band and out-of-band control. Omnitron's NetOutlook SNMP software facilitates real-time monitoring and alarm reporting. The G/M series supports a range of fiber connectivity options, including fixed SC connectors and SFP receptacles, with support for single-mode (SM) fiber up to 12km, as well as multimode, dual fiber, single-fiber, and CWDM wavelengths for extended reach and wavelength division multiplexing. Its compact design allows for flexible mounting options like wall-mounting or DIN-rail mounting (with optional clip). Power is supplied via a 2-pin DC terminal or an included 100-240VAC power adapter.
